 Specialized controls on oil for food quality in restaurants and fast-food in Albania

 Soon, specialized oil for food quality checks will be launched in restaurants and fast foods in Albania. 

Thus, the National Food Authority through a bidding open procedure made available a limit fund of 6.1 million leks to be used for the purchase of special equipment to be used by the inspection teams of the regional directorates of AKU.

The authorities seek the purchase of a kind of device for measuring the quality of the oil for food used in resaurants and fast foods. This measure comes after the early alarms provided by food and consumer advocates, mainly in terms of oil used by fast foods.

According to them, the oil used massively is not recommended to be used more than 4-5 times, but in spite of this in these businesses, its use may even go on for weeks. This abuse, according to experts, causes serious health problems associated with allergy in the digestive system, enlargement of the liver or enlargement of the pancreas. Also, some studies have shown that these symptoms cause also cancer if overdone with the use of these products.

The bids from interested companies to participate in the race announced by AKU will be accepted by October 24, which means that the launch of specialized inspections of oil check will take place soon.
