About 367,000 Albanians (or about 13% of Albanians) rely on their "American Dream" hopes for applying for American Lottery and being ranked first in Europe with the highest percentage of the population applying for the lottery.

Compared to 2007, the number of Albanians applying for American Lottery has doubled, from 173,000 Albanians applying in 2007, in 2018, the number of applications reached a record of 367,000, according to US State Department statistics.

The growth in US Lottery applications has been high, especially after 2013 as seen in the chart.

According to the Pew Research Center analysis of American Lottery applications, a significant proportion of the population applied in some of the countries. In Libya, about 15% of citizens applied for the program, but also other African countries had the same percentage of applications. In Sierra Leone around 14% of the population applied while in Ghana only 8%.

In Europe, the countries with the highest percentage that applied to the program were East countries, where Albania kept the record. According to the Pee Research Center, Moldova is ranked after Albania with 11% of the population, Armenia by 9%.

While in Asia the leading countries are Uzbekistan with 7% and Nepal with 4%.

In 2017 more than 22.4 million people applied worldwide for the US visa program, which provides about 50,000 Green Cards, or permanent residence permits through a lottery system. The number of applicants approached nearly the 2016 record, with 23 million people worldwide, mainly because the Trump administration said it would abandon the program.

Since 2005, more than 200 million people have applied for American lottery, which seeks to diversify the citizenship of the migrant population by issuing visas to immigrants.

Only 8 countries have at least 1 million applicants in 2016, responding to more than half of the total: as Gana, Uzbekistan, Iran, Ukraine, Egypt, Nepal, Ethiopia and Sierra Leone.
