Serbian citizens efforts to erect Slobodan Milosevic's statue

The so called group of Serbian citizens "Freedom" have presented their initiative to erect a statue of the former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic in Belgrade.

This group submitted their request to the Municipal Assembly, the Directorate for Monuments and Names of Belgrade Roads and Squares, as well as to the Presidency.

This initiative is supported by the MP Milutin Mrkonjic and the former Foreign Minister Zhivadin Jovanovic, Serbian media reports.

Jovan Dimitrijevic, a member of the Initiative Council, said that Milosevic's role in protecting the citizens is undeniable.

"Milosevic was a hero of his time, the defender of the country under NATO bombs and defender of the country in the most difficult times. The moral obligation of citizens to an innocent man and a warrior is the erection of a monument," said Dimitrijevic.

While Jovanovic said that Milosevic was undoubtedly one of Serbia's greatest citizens.
