Albanian-Italian-Montenegrin Operation - a Half ton of Marijuana seized


Albanian police in cooperation with Italian and Montenegrin authorities have conducted an international operation against drug trafficking by sea, where they seized about 500 kilograms of marijuana.

Details of the operation in question have been revealed today by the General Director of Border Police and Migration in Albania, Genc Merepeza. According to him, during the joint operation was seized about a half ton of marijuana,  and persons suspected to have trafficked this amount ilegal drug managed to escape the police involved in action.

Albanian police was informed by Guardia di Finanza that an aircraft has identified a boat about 50-60 miles away from Bari, and then Albanian authorities have engaged in sea 8 patrol vessels.

Merepeza stated that Albanian police continued to control aquatic space by coordinating the operation with the Montenegrin Border Police, which deployed 2 naval vehicles.

"The suspect boat that was moving rapidly toward our country was attended by the Guardia di Finanza vehicles by sea and by air. During prosecution, the Albanian services via radar found that the boat took the course toward international waters, i front of the territorial waters of Montenegro. To ease from burden and move faster, the drug traffickers threw into the sea about 500 pounds of marijuana, which was seized by Italian authorities in international waters "- said during a press conference Merepeza.

While police said they are following the investigation for the detection of perpetrators involved in international drug trafficking.
