Lack of political compromise in Albania prevented reforms

In response to the report presented a day earlier by the OSCE Ambassador in Tirana, Florian Raunning, the United States representative in the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna, Daniel B.Baer said that political fight, lack of trust and lack of willingness to compromise, and lack of attention to the progress has hampered the capability of Albania to implement sustainable reforms.

"But of course that the fight against corruption requires the commitment of all parties, and that's why we encourage the government, the parliament, the opposition parties, civil society and the citizens to try to fight corruption," said Baer.
He stressed that the parliamentary elections were an example of a democratic and transparent transfer of power.

"The situation after the elections was not so positive for many in Albania and as your report identifies the mistrust between the parties and unwillingness to compromise have prevented Albania to implement significant reforms", Baer said.
