Tsipras withdraws, abolishes the 'Kotzias' decree on territorial waters expansion against Albania

Certain diplomatic sourcessaid to Oculus News on Tuesday evening that Athens has changed its position regarding the announcement of its coastline expansion from 6 to 12 miles.

It was a decision taken after a closed-door meeting that Foreign Minister and also Prime Minister of the country, Alexis Tsipras, with the highest political staff of this ministry, as well as senior diplomats of Greece.

The sources explained that this Athens decision was taken, according to the prime minister, before asking the Greece President to sign the decree on a major issue such as the extension of sovereignty in Ionian and Aegean, the leaders of the parliamentary parties should be informed, as well as consultations with the president.

Not officially it is said that this decision is annulled by the outgoing minister, Nikos Kotzias, three days ago, during his ministerial portfolio delivery ceremony, to his successor, Alexis Tsipras, and this has disturbed the US, but also Turkey.

It is learned that US has requested the annulment of this decision, while earlier the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlita Çaushoglu stated that any Athens action for the expansion of its coastline in Ionian or Aegean will constitute for him a Casus Belli (cause for war).

Regarding this issue, there has been no reaction from the Albanian side, which three days ago claimed that the extension of the coast line between Greece and Albania is the right  of both countries and that could be extended in areas where this would be possible.

Some journalists suggests that the expansion of the territorial waters of Greece against Albania was to take place in a prepared mediatic terrain, as former Minister Kotzias had paid many Albanian journalists and portals to hid and leave aside this theme in their daily work, a method practiced many times in the past by Greeks with the Albanian journalists against the Anlanian national interest.
