Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti dismisses the Minister of Internal Affairs and Public Administration Agim Veliu.

The Office of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, through a press release, says that late at night, after midnight, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Public Administration, Agim Veliu, has declared the state of emergency against the will of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo.

“In these circumstances, I am obliged to act, so I have decided to dismiss Mr. Veliu. He was dismissed from the post of Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Public Administration. I have informed the President of LDK, Isa Mustafa, about the decision I made and also asked him to send me the name of the new minister as soon as possible,” Kurti's statement reads.

"He also spread panic in this statement, by saying that the number of those affected is increasing from hour to hour. Neither the Ministry of Health nor the National Institute of Public Health said the number of people infected with COVID-19 was increasing hour by hour. At this time, when the entire public administration is making every effort to minimize the damage from the coronavirus, leaders of central institutions, including members of the cabinet, must demonstrate prudence in both decisions and statements.

Through his statements made public, but not supported by his stances at internal meetings, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Public Administration, Veliu has demonstrated a lack of leadership capabilities and has openly undermined the work of the government, part of which he is.

Meanwhile, until the appointment of the new Minister, all decisions within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Public Administration will be taken by the Deputy Minister. Current Minister, Xhelal Sveçla." Kurti's statement concludes.
