Faik Konica's Press Statement in Le Temps in 1939 from US: Italy's Aggression as a Punch in Face

On Sunday, April 9, 1939, the French newspaper "Le Temps" dedicated a special space to Albania's invasion of fascist Italy. Le Temps published a series of reactions to this tragic event, including the reaction of the diplomat, politician and Albanian patriot Faik Konica.

The newspaper states that Albania's Minister in Washington, Mr. Konica, visited Friday afternoon (April 7, 1939), Mr. Cordell Hull (US Secretary of State), with whom discussed the situation in Albania.

Before the meeting with the US official, the Albanian diplomat sent the following statement to the press:

"The Albanian representatives in London and Paris have already published their statements with which I naturally agree. I am far from Albania and I have no direct news from my government; So I have nothing to say as a Minister.
Faik Konica's Press Statement in Le Temps in 1939 from US: Italy's Aggression as a Punch in Face

As an Albanian and former leader of the Albanian nationalist party, I will make a brief statement: The Italians have many admirable qualities and are a great people, but the Almighty in his secret plans denied to them all the meaning of Cavalry.

At the moment when the queen was bringing her baby to life, the Italians struck surprisingly. The mother was forced to leave the bed with a two-day child, and seek shelter outside Albania. It would be against the nature of the Italians to wait a few weeks before doing this.

This aggression, without any provocation from the Albanian side, with a margin of 40,000 Italain soldiers and 1,000 Albanian soldiers based on population, what will bring this to them? Of course, no benefit with time and no honor.

A wrestling champion, who wants to measure his strength, does not face a child, but defies another wrestler of his level. I know that the Italians laughed with these views (comparisons). We always joke with what we do not understand. I do not believe anyone will admire Italy for what has done.

Like other Albanian intellectuals, I dreamed of a close and honest cultural, economic and political cooperation with Italy. Italy's 'elegant' answer to this dream is a punch in the face!/Oculus News
