Kosovo Woman Sentenced in Switzerland After Stealing CHF 38,000 From Village Store

A 30-year-old Kosovo woman has been sentenced in Switzerland after being found guilty of stealing tens of thousands of Swiss francs from a village store in the Zurich lowlands over several months.

According to Swiss media reports Tages-Anzeiger, the woman allegedly used a simple method to conceal the thefts. She would cancel customers’ purchases after receiving their payments, allegedly keeping the cash for herself and instead entering plastic bags worth only a few cents into the cash register.

More than 1,000 suspicious transactions were reportedly identified during the investigation.

The case was heard by the Dielsdorf District Court, where the woman denied the allegations. However, the court found her guilty in the cases that could be established through video surveillance.

The court did not find sufficient evidence to prove all of the suspected manipulations beyond reasonable doubt, and she was acquitted of those additional allegations.

According to the reported judgment, the woman was ordered to repay her former employer approximately CHF 20,000.

The court sentenced her to a 14-month suspended prison sentence for commercial theft and forgery. It also ordered her expulsion from Switzerland for five years.

The woman had previously argued that being expelled from Switzerland would put her marriage and family plans at risk.

She has the right to appeal the decision.
