The women, identified by the initials S.M. and M.J., arrived in Albania on September 4 and were staying in a rented apartment in Tirana. They told police that the alleged incidents took place on the nights of September 5 and 6.
According to their statements, on the first night the women met two young men who worked as food delivery riders while they were out in Tirana. They invited the men to their apartment for drinks, and the two reportedly arrived with a third man.
The women said the evening initially passed normally, but later one of the men allegedly began behaving sexually toward one of them. One of the women told investigators that she later saw her friend in the bedroom with one of the men and believed sexual activity was taking place without her consent.
The following night, the women reportedly met two other men while out in Tirana and invited them back to the apartment. They allege that a second incident of sexual abuse occurred.
The women left Tirana the following day and traveled to Durrës. Three days later, they filed a criminal complaint with Durrës police, describing the two alleged incidents and providing information about the five men.
Because the alleged incidents took place in Tirana, the case was transferred to Tirana Police, specifically Commissariat No. 3. Investigators are working to identify and locate the five men and establish what happened.
Authorities are also expected to examine the rented apartment, the movements and communications of the people involved and other potential evidence. The Swedish Embassy in Tirana has reportedly taken an interest in the case.
No arrests or charges against the five men have been reported at this stage, and the allegations remain under investigation.
