Dajti Mountain Wildfire Approaches Surrel as Firefighters Battle Blaze for More Than 10 Days

 A major wildfire has intensified on Mount Dajti, on the outskirts of Albania’s capital Tirana, with the blaze continuing for more than 10 days and flames advancing toward the Surrel area.

 A major wildfire intensifies on Mount Dajti near Tirana, spreading toward the Surrel area as emergency crews and helicopters deploy to contain the multi-day blaze.

The fire, which initially broke out in the Priska area, has expanded significantly in recent days. On Wednesday, the flames were reported to have moved closer to Surrel, raising concerns over the rapidly developing situation.

Authorities have mobilized significant emergency and firefighting resources to contain the fire.

According to the Albanian Ministry of Defence, operations are currently underway in two main areas.

Firefighting operation near Surrel

In the direction of Surrel, 22 personnel from the Fire Service and the Protected Areas Administration (ADZM) have been deployed. They are being supported by two Air Force helicopters, which are conducting aerial firefighting operations.

Operations in Priska e Madhe

In Priska e Madhe, 15 personnel are operating with four firefighting vehicles, while two helicopters are also providing aerial support.

Despite the scale of the wildfire, authorities officially report that there is currently no direct threat to populated areas.

However, an increased presence of Albanian State Police and emergency forces has been observed in the area as the operation continues.

The situation is attracting particular attention because Surrel is home to the residence of Prime Minister Edi Rama, although authorities have not reported any direct threat to the residence.

Firefighters and emergency crews are continuing efforts to isolate the fire and prevent it from spreading further, while difficult terrain and the prolonged duration of the blaze are complicating the operation.

The firefighting operation remains ongoing.
