Serbian authorities have arrested a man originally from Istog, Kosovo, on suspicion of involvement in the criminal offense of “espionage,” in a case linked to efforts to uncover the fate of people who went missing during the Kosovo War.

The operation was carried out by members of the Service for Combating Terrorism and Extremism, in cooperation with the Directorate of Criminal Police, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kraljevo, and Serbia’s Security and Information Agency (BIA).
Serbian authorities allege that the arrested man cooperated with an intelligence service operating in Kosovo and collected and transmitted information concerning the activities of former and current members of the Serbian Army, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and other security institutions.
The arrest took place at a time when excavations are underway in the area of Kalludra e Vogël in Zubin Potok, at a site suspected of being a mass grave.
The site is believed to potentially contain the remains of 23 Albanian intellectuals from Mitrovica who went missing in April 1999.
R.T. has been placed in detention for up to 48 hours. Following the expiration of this period, he is expected to appear before the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kraljevo, which will decide on the next legal steps.
