Mario Mitaj Set to Join Genoa and Make His Serie A Return

The Albanian national team defender will leave Al Ittihad and transfer to Genoa, with an agreement between the parties already reached. The Italian club has won the race against several Portuguese teams, which had also shown concrete interest in the 22-year-old.

For Mitaj, this represents a return to one of Europe’s strongest leagues. After spells with AEK Athens, Lokomotiv Moscow and Al Ittihad, he will now test himself in Serie A. Genoa sees the Albania international as an important addition to the left side of its defense, thanks to his speed, defensive abilities and contribution to building play from the back.

Mitaj has been part of Al Ittihad in recent seasons, winning the Saudi Arabian league title and King’s Cup, while with the Albanian national team he has become an undisputed starter. Born in Athens on August 6, 2003, he made his Albania debut at just 17 years old and has so far made more than 30 appearances for the Red and Blacks, establishing himself as one of the most important players of the new generation.

The official announcement of the transfer is expected in the coming hours or days, with Genoa securing one of the most promising Albanian defenders at the moment after winning strong competition from Portuguese clubs.
