The fatal incident occurred along the secondary Lezhë–Kakarriq road, in the area known as Gocaj. According to preliminary information, the car carrying the victims left the roadway and ended up overturned in a canal, leading to the immediate deaths of both occupants.
The victims have been identified as Anton Keçi, 52, head of healthcare at the Lezhë prison, and his daughter Bora Keçi, a 20-year-old second-year medical student. The accident is believed to have taken place during the afternoon hours but was only discovered later in the evening.
Concern arose when family members lost contact with them and began searching. Police services were later alerted and managed to locate the vehicle submerged in the canal along with the victims’ bodies. The search operation proved difficult due to the location of the crash, which was hard to detect from the road.
In an official condolence message, the General Directorate of Prisons confirmed that Anton Keçi had served for six years in the penitentiary system as head of healthcare at the Lezhë facility. His daughter was following in his footsteps, pursuing medical studies at university.
Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident.
