Many doctors to be arrested in Tirana, except Fitim Marku

 Albanian media sources say that in addition to the rheumatologist Fitim Marku arrested today for corruption, there are expected to be other arrests at the Trauma Hospital.

Fitim Marku was arrested by the police at noon yesterday.

Marku is suspected to have been caught red-handed inside the hospital taking bribes from patients. The amount has not been confirmed as the investigation continues.

There are still civilian police officers on the premises of the Trauma Hospital, who are seizing some of the patient records and the doctor's register.

We remind you that corruption in medicine and hospitals is a serious problem in Albanian society. It is often said that if you don't hand over money to the doctors, they will let you die without paying attention. The most flagrant case is the arrest of one of the most popular cardiologists, Edvin Prifti, who was found with millions of lek and thousands of euros in cash at home.

"If you don't give money in the form of corruption to doctors in Albania, they will let you die!", this is a well-known phrase that circulates in every sphere of society related to health and doctors.
