1.2 tons of marijuana seized in Athens entering from South Albania

Another case of international drug trafficking Albania-Greece-Turkey has been hit, with a seizure of 1.2 tonnes of marijuana. The narcotics have been seized in Athens, while Greek media say the operation took place on Saturday but was published today.

A Home Car reportedly crossed the southern border checkpoint of Qafë Bota, entering Greece and continuing the journey toward Athens.

It was Igumenica's anti-drug officers, in collaboration with Athens that stopped the Home Car in the Greek capital, where a large quantity of drugs, namely 1 ton and 145 kg of marijuana, 4 kg and 68 grams of 'chocolate' has been detected during the control, as well as 918 grams of oil of hashish.

Police believe the marijuana to have crossed the Albanian border of the Qafë Bota and has a market value of € 1 million and 730 thousand euros. Two drivers of the Car Home, namely man and woman, were arrested, while another was declared wanted. Greek media have released footage of the operation, while the identity and nationality of the detainees are not yet known.
