The new center is part of the "Give Me Rescue Shelter" project implemented by the Civic Integration Initiative with 30 boxes and three auxiliary spaces. After eight months, the equipped center will go into the ownership of the Municipality.

The opening of the center was made possible with support from the Western Balkans for Local Democracy program, EU and UNDP.

According to estimates by municipal authorities in the streets of the city and surrounding neighborhoods, there are over 700 stray dogs who often attack citizens and cause them injuries. The municipality last year announced the alleviation of the problem with animal treatment and care.
