Greece blocks 7 tonnes of vegetables originating from Albania because of high pesticide level

 About 7 tonnes of vegetables produced in Albania have been blocked by Greek authorities. According to Greek media, the vegetables were blocked because contain high levels of chemicals.

The vegetable stock consisting of most peppers, pumpkin, and tomatoes was caught in early October and after analysis on October 23 it turned out that the vegetables contained high chlorpyrifos (pesticide) content, which is above the norm allowed by the European Union.

The seizure of 6,995 kg of vegetables was done by the Food Inspectors of the Regional Economic and Veterinary Directorate of the Regional Unit of Piraeus, in co-operation with the Regional Livestock Center.

This is the second case Within a short time Greece has been blocking Albanian agricultural products for the same reason. On October 9, peppers and pumpkin from Albania were blocked because of the high content of chemical fertilizers.
