Diva Compagnucci was a retired teacher and has been found dead by her daughters in Tolfa, a commune about 70km away from the Italian capital, Rome.
The main suspect in the incident is an Albanian who has been immediately questioned.
It looks like the teacher has been killed after an attempted robbery by the Albanian Sergio Malaj, 23, who also lives in the hilly town of Tolfa. He is accused of having punched the 91-year-old, most likely at the helm of the robbery that ended badly.
The elderly was found with multiple fractures to the head. Her family members, as well as an Albanian suspected of involvement in the crime, were questioned, according to Italian media.
