The European Union will observe the early parliamentary elections in Kosovo on October 6, calling the move evidence of commitment to democratic processes in Kosovo.

The outgoing EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, has appointed the European Parliament member Viola von Cramon-Taubadel, as the head of the Observer Mission.

A statement from Ms. Mogherini's office said that "Kosovo remains a political priority for the EU and the deployment of the Election Observation Mission confirms our continued commitment and commitment to supporting the democratic process in Kosovo."

She is convinced that the mission will help maintain a comprehensive, credible and transparent election.

"These elections are an important period for Kosovo, which must move decisively forward on the European path, on reforms and on normalizing relations with Serbia," Mogherini was quoted as saying.

New elections in Kosovo followed the resignation of Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj on July 19th after being summoned for questioning at The Hague's Special Prosecution Office which handles war crimes and post-war allegations in Kosovo.

Western diplomats are urging political parties to create a safe and secure environment for the October 6th elections and to avoid abusive voting and intimidation of Kosovo Serb candidates and voters who were not listed with the Serbian List in previous elections. .

Diplomats also look forward to the swift formation of a new government that would be willing to remove obstacles to the speedy resumption of talks on normalizing relations with Serbia.
