More than 500kg of cocaine has been seized at the port of Piraeus in Greece during the control of 100 containers of bananas. The cargo came from Ecuador.

Greek media report on four people arrested so far, while investigations continue and are extended to Thessaloniki and other cities.

The operation began in early August, when Greek authorities received information about a heavy load in Athens and Thessaloniki.

On August 2, 51 kg of cocaine has been seized in the port of Thessaloniki in a refrigerated container with bananas coming from Latin America.

A few days later, on August 13, 24 kg of cocaine has been seized.

Greek authorities are treating the issue with particular caution in an attempt to clarify all aspects but also of why the Latin American cartels have targeted Greece.
