 A 52-year-old Albanian was arrested yesterday in Tirana. Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Piacenza have already in their hand the Albanian, who was sentenced by the Italian courts with 5 years of imprisonment.

Bilbil Elezaj has been arrested in Tirana on behalf of the Italian Justice, a person included in the blacklist of the wanted persons of Interpol. The prosecution had demanded 9 years in prison for Elezaj, but eventually he was sentenced to 5 years in prison, as the Italian media writes.

The Albanian was proclaimed internationally wanted in October 2018. He was actually part of the "Grande Aracri", a species of gang in Italy. This gang operated in the Italian provinces of Reggio Emilia, Parma and Modena. Elezaj was declared wanted, as he was among the 218 people who had been arrested or declared wanted on the framework of the operation codenamed "Amelia".

He was found guilty in the First Instance Court for the criminal offense of multiple extortion and was eventually sentenced to 5 years in prison. In that operation there were also arrested some police officers and some foreign nationals. Bilbil Elezaj worked as a driver and used threats to get the money.

But how did Elezaj got arrested in Tirana? Carabinieri, observing the 52-year-old woman in Italy, they reported on unusual trips from Italy to Albania. Police have identified two flats of the couple in Tirana, where the couple met. And yesterday afternoon, after meeting, police followed and stopped at the airport the woman while was departing to Italy.
