A consortium between two Albanian companies, "Global Technical Mechanichs" and "Bami sh.pk", will get the concession for Kukes Airport for 35 years.

The Ministry of Infrastructure announced that has declared the winner, the only bid in the tender for the concession of the airport, which took place a few days ago.

According to the Ministry, two Albanian companies will invest about 8m euros to modernize the airport and put it into operation. In the tender documents, to meet the criterion of experience, this joint venture has entered into an agreement with the Dutch company "Nako", which has a wide experience in the field of airport administration and management in several countries around the world.

Kukes Airport concession procedures started in July last year when the Council of Ministers took the decision to reward with 8 percent bonus points, the unsolicited bid of companies "Kastrati" and "TMD Systems".

But in the tender that took place on December 20, the bonus company was not presented at all, and the only offer received was that of the companies "Global Mechanichs" and "Bami shpk".

According to the project, the winning company foresees the rehabilitation and operation of the Kukes Airport, expanding the airport runway, the Passenger Terminal, the parking area, etc.

The airport will aim to operate at low-cost flights, as it is tailored to the low-cost airline business model by its infrastructure, simplicity and technology. In the feasibility study it is estimated that through the Kukes Airport will travel on average about 300 thousand passengers per year.
