European Parliament: Negotiations with Albania will be opened when conditions are meet

With 44 votes in favor, 5 against and 5 abstentions, the European Parliament (EP) approved on Tuesday the report on the five Western Balkan countries, including Albania.

The report says that the EP welcomed Albania's progress, but the MEPs have raised concerns about the level of corruption and lack of efficiency in justice.

Some hot issues have been mentioned in discussions such as the negotiations with Greece, especially the respect of minority rights in our country, as well as the construction of hydropower plants in several rivers of Albania. The European Parliament has expressed its stance that the membership negotiations will be opened when Albania meets the necessary conditions, not at any given date.

The EP report confirms the statement of few days ago by the Foreign Minister of Germany, who said that there is no exact date for the opening of Albania's negotiations with the EU.
