It is undoubtedly one of the most powerful women in the US and President Donald Trump's most trusted person. But during a reception hosted by the General Consulate of Kosovo in New York, Nikki Haley surprised all when stated that her husband is of Albanian descent.

The United States ambassador to the United Nations stated that Washington is striving for all countries to recognize Kosovo at the United Nations, and that her husband is originally from Pristina.

The comments came from all the guests, attended by ambassadors accredited to the UN, as well as representatives of the Albanian diaspora and American businesses.

Pointing out the fact that her husband is of Albanian origin, Trump's representative said that:

We wanted to participate in this activity for several reasons. I'm here with my husband, whose grandfather came to America from Albania.
We have many things in common with Kosovars in the Albanian community.

We are trying for Kosovo to be recognize by all countries in the UN and we will continue to do so until Kosovo gains recognition.

The Ambassador stated further that her presence on the event was a clear message of the fact that America will continue to be a friend of Kosovo.

She recalled how Kosovo Albanians turned out to be willing to help when Texas was hit by the hurricane this year and added that this speaks about the ties between the two peoples.
