Albanian Protesters in Milan Demand Edi Rama’s Resignation in Mass Flamingo Revolution March

 Hundreds of Albanians from across Italy took part in a march in Milan in support of the ongoing protests in Tirana, with demonstrators calling for the resignation of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.

 

The Milan demonstration was organized as a diaspora show of solidarity with the protests in Albania, which have continued for nearly four months. Organizers had called on Albanians from Lombardy, other parts of northern Italy and Switzerland to join the march.

Activist Suela Mehdini, speaking to MCN TV from the demonstration, described the turnout as massive and said Albanians had traveled to Milan from different parts of Italy.

“We are marching in Milan in support of the protest in Tirana. The participation was massive, with Albanians from almost all of Italy,” Mehdini said.

According to Mehdini, protesters are demanding the cancellation of legislation concerning protected areas and the “Mountain Package,” electoral reform with open lists, and what she described as a genuine national renewal. She also called for Rama’s resignation.

The Milan protesters said they intend to continue their involvement in support of the movement in Albania. The demonstrations, known as the Flamingo Revolution, have also expanded into the Albanian diaspora, with recent mobilizations reported in several European cities.
