Italian Member of the European Parliament Cristina Guarda has responded to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama after his recent accusations against European lawmakers who have expressed support for protests in Albania.

“EU Integration Must Serve Citizens, Not Speculators”
In a public message addressed to the Albanian prime minister, Guarda expressed concern over the direction of Albania’s European integration process.
The Italian MEP emphasized that Albania’s path toward the European Union should focus on protecting citizens’ rights and democratic standards, rather than serving the interests of investors or speculators.
According to Guarda, the European integration process must place citizens at its center and guarantee transparency, accountability and respect for fundamental rights.
Letter Sent to European Commission
Guarda explained that, as a member of the European Parliament’s Delegation for relations with Albania and as a politician with years of engagement in environmental issues and citizens’ rights, she has signed a letter addressed to the European Commission.
She said the initiative aims to highlight concerns related to Albania’s integration process and ensure that reforms are carried out in the interest of the Albanian people.
The exchange comes amid growing political debate in Albania over protests, government policies and the country’s progress toward EU membership.
