Body Recovered Off the Coast of the Ksamil Islands
A 61-year-old fisherman has been found dead in the waters near the Ksamil Islands in southern Albania, prompting an investigation by local authorities.
The victim was identified as Mihal Zoi, who is believed to have died from drowning. During the search operation, police also recovered his sunken fishing boat, which was found submerged in the same area.
Fisherman Believed to Have Gone to Sea Before Severe Storm
According to preliminary information, Zoi is believed to have gone fishing on Tuesday, shortly before a powerful storm swept across the region, bringing strong winds and high waves.
Investigators suspect that the deteriorating weather conditions may have contributed to the tragedy, although the exact sequence of events remains under investigation.
Police Investigating Two Possible Scenarios
Authorities are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Investigators are currently examining two possible scenarios:
- An accidental drowning caused by adverse weather conditions while fishing.
- The possibility of suicide.

Victim Lived Alone in Albania
Preliminary reports indicate that the 61-year-old was divorced and that his children currently live in Greece.
His only known close relative residing in Albania is his sister.
Authorities have not released additional personal information as the investigation continues.
Official Police Statement Confirms Ongoing Investigation
In an official statement, the Albanian State Police said that the victim's body was discovered at approximately 11:00 a.m. opposite the Ksamil Islands.
Police stated that preliminary examinations suggest the fisherman died as a result of drowning after allegedly going out to sea for fishing. Officers also located the boat believed to have been used by the victim before it sank.
The investigative team, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, continues to examine all evidence to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the incident.
