TIRANA, Albania — International pop star Jennifer Lopez could have performed in Tirana, but the concert never materialized after organizers requested a €2 million financial guarantee from the Albanian government, according to Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja.
Speaking publicly about the proposal, Gonxhja said the guarantee was intended to cover potential losses if the concert were disrupted or canceled because of ongoing protests in the Albanian capital.
According to the minister, the Albanian government declined to assume the financial risk associated with such a guarantee. As a result, the proposal to organize the concert was rejected, and the event did not move forward.
The revelation comes as Tirana continues to experience prolonged public demonstrations, raising concerns among organizers of large-scale events over security, logistics, and financial exposure.
Gonxhja did not provide additional details regarding the negotiations or identify the organizers involved in the discussions. Likewise, no public statement has been issued by Jennifer Lopez or her representatives regarding the reported proposal.
