A potentially serious incident was prevented by police in Durrës after officers stopped an allegedly intoxicated driver following a tense pursuit in the former Këneta neighborhood.
According to preliminary police information, officers identified a vehicle traveling without license plates in one of the city’s busiest residential areas. Traffic police signaled the driver to stop, but the individual ignored repeated orders and continued driving through local streets, prompting an immediate pursuit.
Two motorcycle traffic inspectors joined the operation, and after several minutes of pursuit, officers managed to block the vehicle. In an apparent attempt to escape, the driver allegedly reversed and collided with a police vehicle before being neutralized and escorted to the local police station.
Authorities later confirmed that an alcohol test showed the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The incident occurred in the same area where two minors lost their lives in a tragic crash just weeks ago, raising renewed concerns over road safety and enforcement in the neighborhood.
