Albanian investigative journalist Artan Hoxha has reignited public debate over the fate of missing gambling businessman Ervis Martinaj, stating publicly that Martinaj was murdered and his body was deliberately made to disappear.

Speaking during a televised interview, Hoxha said he was not speculating but repeating what he has consistently maintained since Martinaj’s disappearance in 2022. According to Hoxha, he has personally discussed his conclusions with Martinaj’s family, including his father, and believes the evidence points to a targeted killing followed by an organized effort to erase all traces of the crime.

Hoxha went further by alleging that those behind Martinaj’s disappearance represent one of the most powerful criminal structures operating in Albania. He also raised serious questions about the official investigation, claiming that key witnesses, law enforcement officials, and individuals connected to the case have either been arrested, removed from their positions, or disappeared from public scrutiny.

The veteran crime reporter criticized state institutions for what he described as conflicting narratives and political interference in the investigation. He pointed to the arrest of Jeton Lami, believed to be one of the last people to have contact with Martinaj, as one of the critical unanswered pieces in the case. Hoxha argued that the investigation continues to expose deeper links between organized crime and institutional failures.

The disappearance of Ervis Martinaj remains one of Albania’s most high-profile unsolved criminal cases, with authorities continuing parallel investigations into both his possible murder and his unexplained disappearance.
