Albania’s State Police have received a fleet of advanced thermal drones from the United States, marking a significant upgrade in law enforcement capabilities.
According to official statements, the new drones were delivered this week as part of ongoing security cooperation between Albania and the United States. Equipped with thermal imaging technology, the drones will help authorities monitor remote areas, detect illegal activities, and support search-and-rescue operations, particularly during nighttime or in difficult terrain.
Officials say the deployment will strengthen efforts against organized crime, illegal cultivation, and border surveillance—key challenges in Albania and across the Balkans. The technology enables real-time data transmission, allowing police units to respond faster and more effectively to incidents on the ground. Albanian authorities emphasized that the drones will also be used in emergency situations, including natural disasters.
The initiative reflects broader U.S. support for strengthening rule of law institutions in Albania and the region. Security analysts note that such investments are increasingly important as Balkan countries modernize their policing tools to align with European standards and improve regional stability.
