Two new football fields have been officially inaugurated in Gjirokastër, marking a joint investment by the Albanian Football Federation and the Municipality of Gjirokastër to strengthen sports infrastructure and youth development in southern Albania.
The inauguration ceremony brought together key figures, including Armand Duka and Flamur Golemi, who emphasized the importance of the project for the local community. The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve football facilities and encourage grassroots participation across the country.
Speaking at the event, Duka described the new fields as more than just infrastructure, highlighting their symbolic value for unity and development in Albanian football. He underlined the federation’s ongoing commitment to investing in sports facilities nationwide, ensuring better conditions for young players and fostering a stronger football culture. According to him, the collaboration with local authorities demonstrates a shared vision to expand opportunities for youth engagement in sports.
The president also praised the cooperation with the municipality, calling it an example of effective partnership that should be replicated across Albania. He stressed that such investments are essential not only for competitive football but also for promoting the sport as an inclusive and community-driven activity.
Mayor Golemi echoed these sentiments, describing the new fields as a vital resource for young people aspiring to pursue football professionally. He emphasized the broader role of sports in shaping healthy lifestyles and supporting the social development of children and families in the region. According to Golemi, the facilities will benefit not only the city of Gjirokastër but also the wider district.
The project reflects a growing focus on grassroots sports development in Albania, with local and national institutions working together to create modern, accessible infrastructure. As new facilities emerge, initiatives like this aim to nurture talent, promote community engagement, and strengthen the future of Albanian football.
