GRAMA BAY – Three individuals were successfully rescued near Grama Bay after the sailing vessel they were navigating experienced engine failure, the Ministry of Defense has announced.
The incident triggered an immediate search and rescue operation led by the Albanian Naval Force. Upon receiving the distress signal, the rapid response vessel P-116 “BORA” was deployed and promptly reached the location of the disabled sailboat.
According to the Ministry’s statement, the rescue operation was conducted in coordination with the Border Police of Vlora and the National Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (QKKSH). The three passengers were safely evacuated and are reported to be in good health and out of danger.
The sailboat was also successfully towed to safety and is now anchored at the port of Himarë.
“This challenging rescue mission near Grama Bay was successfully completed thanks to the swift and professional coordination between the Naval Force, Border Police, and the Maritime Rescue Center,” the Ministry emphasized in its statement.
Grama Bay, known for its remote and rugged coastline, has become a popular spot for recreational sailing, but also poses risks due to its isolated location and lack of immediate access to port facilities.
