Albania Sees Significant Growth in Agricultural Machinery Use in 2024

In 2024, Albania has marked a notable increase in the use of mechanical equipment in agriculture, reaching a total of 34,000 units in operation across the country. This includes tractors, mini-tractors, seeders, and combine harvesters. A detailed regional breakdown, provided by Scan Intel, offers insights into how the agricultural sector is evolving across different parts of the country.

Among the 12 administrative regions, Fier and Korça stand out as the leading counties in terms of machinery adoption. Fier, known for its deep agricultural roots and fertile plains, reported 3,141 wheel tractors and 1,354 mini-tractors, positioning it as one of the most advanced agricultural zones in Albania. Korça, another top performer, recorded 1,624 tractors and 1,223 mini-tractors, underscoring the strength and modernization of farming practices in the southeastern region.

In contrast, Dibër and Kukës report the lowest number of agricultural machines. Dibër has only 321 wheel tractors and 49 mini-tractors, while Kukës reports 313 tractors and 164 mini-tractors. These lower figures may reflect less mechanized farming, potentially influenced by mountainous terrain, scattered land plots, and limited rural infrastructure, which make large-scale mechanization more difficult.

At the national level, wheel tractors remain the most commonly used agricultural tools, with 10,632 units registered throughout the country. They are followed by 6,168 mini-tractors, which are particularly useful for smaller plots and rugged terrain. In addition, 4,362 seeders are actively in use, playing a vital role in improving planting efficiency.

This data reflects a broader trend of modernization and mechanization in Albanian agriculture, a sector that remains a cornerstone of the national economy. The increased adoption of farming machinery not only helps boost productivity but also contributes to improving rural livelihoods by reducing manual labor and enabling more efficient use of land.

As Albania continues to invest in rural development, further improvements in access to agricultural technology, infrastructure, and training will be essential for ensuring that all regions can benefit from the ongoing transformation of the sector.
