The criminalistics expert, Ervin Karamuço, has discovered the establishment of the DEA office in Tirana.

Through a post on Facebook, he welcomes American anti-drug agents to Tirana.

“DEA welcome!!!!!! It was the right time to open the office in Tirana. Athens was becoming more and more distant because of the pressing matters that dictate your presence here...", writes Karamuço on Facebook.

This decision of the DEA to land in Tirana comes at a time when Albanian criminal organizations have taken a key role in cocaine trafficking from Latin American countries of origin to Europe.

The arrival of American anti-drug agents in Tirana comes after an important development that happened a while ago, where the Director General of the State Police, Gladis Nano, met the head of the FBI, Christopher Wray, during his visit to Washington., media say.

In an exclusive interview for the "Panorama.al" newspaper, Mr. Nano revealed that the meetings with the heads of the American agencies were aimed at increasing cooperation for the exchange of information, but also joint investigations and operations in the fight against organized crime, corruption, and terrorism.

According to him, the State Police has conducted many operations with the FBI, the DEA, the Security Office of the American Embassy, and other American law enforcement agencies.

The American Embassy in Tirana also distributed footage from the meeting and a message where it wrote that Gladis Nano's visit "further strengthened the cooperation between the Albanian State Police and the US Government".

While on the other hand, Shemsi Prenci, a former adviser to the president Ilir Meta and former director of the police of Dibra, said this Friday in Euronews, while commenting on the establishment of the DEA office in Tirana.

He said that the establishment of the DEA in Albania is a good omen for Albania, but not for the Albanian law enforcement bodies, as it shows that the institutions are unreliable.

"We have failed in the operations to attack the circulation of hard drugs in Albania. We caught the drugs, but we didn't catch either the receivers of the goods or the senders of the goods. In this perspective, the DEA has had an uncertainty in relation to cooperation with the law enforcement bodies in Albania. Recently, two programs of the Albanian government, the fiscal amnesty and the legalization of cannabis cultivation, are no longer mentioned, because these two are the most serious problems in Albania. Drug trafficking and money laundering in Albania are making the Albanian economy an unfair competition. The installation of the American DEA office is a good omen for Albania and a bad omen for the law enforcement institutions in Albania", said Shemsi Prenci to Euronews.
