Four Serbs who were transporting election materials for the Serbian referendum in Kosovo were stopped at the border crossing in Merdare.

The detainees are the coordinator of the Republican Election Commission in Serbia, Marko Jankovic, the driver, and two truck drivers, Euronews reports.

The news was announced by the Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, who demand the reaction of the European Union for the release of the detained persons.

Election materials and detainees are at the police station in Luzhan, Podujeva.

The issue of the Serbian referendum is expected to be discussed at today's plenary session in Kosovo, where a joint resolution is expected. DP deputies will not be part of this session.

President Vjosa Osmani, Speaker of Parliament Glauk Konjufca, as well as Prime Minister Albin Kurti issued a joint statement after meeting with QUINT ambassadors and the EU representative, reiterating their opposition to holding a Serbian referendum in Kosovo.
