Two miners have lost their lives today in Kosovo from what is suspected to be a landslide at the Artana mine.

Hysen Vrajolli, director of the Trepça enterprise, within which the mine in question operates, confirmed the tragic death of two miners and the injury of another. Local media say KSF teams have been working to retrieve the bodies of two miners who lost their lives in the accident at the mine's fifth gallery. It is learned that they are about 50 years old.

At the scene, in addition to KSF teams, there is a group of forensic medicine. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, and the Minister of Economy, Employment, Trade, Industry, Entrepreneurship and Strategic Investments, Rozeta Hajdari, have already arrived in Kamenica. According to the chairman of the Artana Mining Workers' Union, Blerim Ymeri, at the time of the tragedy there were in fact about 5 workers; the soil, he says, has trapped the engineer and a miner, while others have escaped with minor injuries.

While MEPTINIS has also announced the identification of the victims.

"We express our deep regret for the tragedy that occurred today, on June 2, in the mine of Artana where Idriz Gerbeshi and Haki Arifaj lost their lives. Idriz Gerbeshi was a miner living in Hajvali, while Haki Arifaj was a graduate mining engineer from the village of Gllogovc, Lipjan Municipality. The incident happened with the unexpected collapse of the rock mass in the Artana mine. The Ministry of Economy, Employment, Trade, Industry, Entrepreneurship and Strategic Investments expressed condolences to all the families and friends of the deceased. The authorities of the Republic of Kosovo are working hard to help all the affected miners and family members. As a result of this accident, no other workers were left trapped inside", it is said in the announcement of MEPTINIS.

So far there is no other information or cause that has led to this accident, but work is underway to remove the bodies.
