Pristina rejects the Nikola Selakovic's request to visit Kosovo

Kosovo's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora announced that it has rejected a request by the Secretary-General of the Office of the President of Serbia, Nikola Selakovic, to visit the Republic of Kosovo on March 14.

"The request has been rejected due to the unjust arrest and continued detention by the authorities of Belgrade of the citizen of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Nezir Mehmetaj, although all the facts indicate that he should be released as soon as possible", reads the announcement.

Nezir Mehmetaj was arrested by Serbian police on January 4, 2020, at the Merdare border crossing point, while returning from Switzerland to Kosovo on suspicion of war crimes.

The Kosovo authorities have repeatedly called for his release, and have suggested earlier to Kosovo citizens to avoid circulation in Serbia.

Kosovo's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora said that requests for visits by Serbian officials will be reviewed only after Mehmetaj's release.
