Josep Borrell says to Albin Kurti that is necessary the complete tax lifting on Serbian and Bosnian goods

 Josep Borrell
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced that he has received a letter from the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, Josep Borrell.

In his letter, Borrell expressed satisfaction about the Kurti Government, who, as he said, "the relationship with the EU is his main priority".

"Similarly, I welcome your intention to pursue the necessary reforms to advance the rule of law, economic development, and good governance in Kosovo. These are key elements for your future," Borrell said, according to Radio Free Europe.

He also cited the dialogue with Serbia, saying that the European Union and its member states "strongly believe that resuming talks is necessary and urgent" and "will seek the complete abolition of tariffs".

"I welcomed your announcement last week about tariffs, which is a good first step in the right direction. We need full tariff lifting. In this context, I fully agree with you that past agreements and remaining obligations should be totally fulfilled. Serbia, like Kosovo, must fulfill its commitments to implement those agreements," Borrell said.

Kosovo has levied a 100 percent tax on products imported from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina since November 2018.

The day before, Kurti announced his plan to gradually lift this tax.

The United States has demanded the complete removal of the tax.

There have also been warnings about the withdrawal of US troops from Kosovo, due to the lack of a decision by the Kosovo Government to completely abolish the tax.

The tax has also delayed the dialogue on normalizing Kosovo-Serbia relations by the end of 2018.

Serbia has conditioned the return to dialogue with the tax abolition. Kosovo wants Serbia to halt its campaign against the recognition of its independence.
