The leader of the League Matteo Salvini is under investigation by the prosecutor's office of Rome for a possible abuse of office linked to some state flights made when he was the interior minister: according to an investigation by Repubblica, they would have been exploited not for institutional purposes but to reach the places of electoral meetings. An investigation into the matter had already been made by the Court of Auditors, which had closed the case in September: it had ruled out that the flights had caused revenue damage to the public purse, establishing however that had been "illegitimate" and transmitting the documents to the attorney of Rome.
The Rome prosecutor's office, after a few weeks of investigation, in turn, sent the investigative documents to the court of ministers, charged with dealing with crimes committed by ministers during their government post. Now the court will have to assess whether the illegality revealed by the Court of Auditors has a criminal weight or not, that is if it is a case of abuse of office, embezzlement or if no crime has been committed.
