The number of unaccompanied migrant children in Greece reached 4,777

Greece's Deputy Labor Minister Domna Mihailidou said at a news conference that 4,777 children have left their countries for various reasons.

She said it is not known where these children are and under what conditions, and stressed that Greek police are working to find these children.

Mihailidou drew attention that 43 percent of unaccompanied children are from Afghanistan, 25 percent from Pakistan, and 9 percent from Syria. The breakdown by gender is 93.8 percent male and 6.2 percent female and 7 percent of children are under 14 years of age.

The deputy minister also announced that they had talked with the ambassadors of many countries including the ambassadors of Germany and Serbia and emphasized the possibility of transferring some of these children to these countries.

Mihailidou said, among other things, that various activities were being carried out to solve the problem of housing for these children and asked the European Commission to continue funding the hotels where some children were housed.

She also estimated that the number of children of the emigrants in the country would increase by the end of the year.
