 The ship for the transportation of the sheep 'Queen Hind', weighing 3,785 tonnes with 14,600 sheep in it, sank partly today at the Romanian Port of Midi.

An operation involving Romanian police, firefighters and coastguards are underway to save the sheep.

“We have already rescued a small number of sheep. They were swimming in the sea,” Stoica Anamaria, spokeswoman for emergency services in Konstanța, told the BBC.

The "Hindu Queen" sailed under the Palau banner, with a crew of 22 Syrian sailors. Meanwhile, a crew member was taken to hospital with hypothermia.

"He fell into the sea but was rescued very quickly," Anamaria said, adding that the rest of the crew are safe".

Authorities have announced investigations to find out the cause of the sinking of the ship heading for the city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
