Veliaj praised in Australia, Tirana hosts 2020 World Parks Conference

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj received another assessment, this time in Australia, where Tirana was selected as the organizer for the 2020 World Conference of Cities and Parks.

The transformation of Tirana in the last four years, but especially that of Lake Park, has led the Albanian capital to be entrusted with the organization of this important activity next year, which has been held in Australia this year. Tirana Lake Park is today the most frequented space by the citizens, with over 300,000 users. The area is also referred to as the capital's main lung.

While presenting some of the successful initiatives undertaken by the Municipality of Tirana, Mayor Veliaj spoke about the rebirth of Tirana, the placement of children in the spotlight of the city and all the beautiful investments for them, such as playgrounds and recreational parks. Veliaj described Tirana's children as advocates of all the positive changes that have taken place in the capital.

"I'm happy to be here to talk about so many important things in our lives. We are here for city life and initiatives for more parks, public and recreational spaces, with a focus on children and the elderly, find solutions at conferences like this one today. Here we get to experience how to do things properly, not by inventing the wheel, but by discovering what worked in one place and could easily function in another,” Veliaj said.

The World Conference on Urban Cities and Parks focused on linking parks and public spaces to the health and well-being of citizens, and addressed the need for better policies, increased green spaces, especially for children.
