You become Albanian if you pay, according to the recent Government amendments

 The Albanian government has recently proposed a draft law on how to obtain the Albanian citizenship. This bill has expanded the possibilities of obtaining the Albanian citizenship by two more sections.

In a media interview, the Deputy Minister of Interior, Rovena Voda, explained what these two sections are:

“We have added the origin and the birth in the Albanian territory. By origin we understand that the individual must have up to three ancestors of Albanian origin”, said Voda.

Now the children born outside of Albania by both parents of Albanian citizenship, acquire automatically the Albanian citizenship.

"It is yeasier for the children to acquire the citizenship if both parents are of Albanian citizenship," the deputy minister added.

The novelty of this bill is that our country will grant the Albanian citizenship to foreign investors and businessmen, who will receive an Albanian passport in exchange of an amount of money, expected to be high but not yet determined.

According to Deputy Minister Voda, this will be done for the economic purposes of our country, avoiding doubts that may be related to illegal activities of those who will acquire Albanian citizenship.

“We will be careful. We will control the investment and maintain the standards so that we have no doubts about money laundering,” she said.
