US: No visas for those involved in corruption in Kosovo

The US Embassy in Pristina said on Thursday that there will be no travel visas available toward the United States for the people involved in corruption.

In a communiqué by this Embassy in Kosovo it is stated that "Kosovo citizens deserve a justice system that holds accountable the individuals for their corrupt actions. In this regard, the US Embassy is taking steps to ensure that are not issued visas to individuals who are involved in major corruption cases for travel to the United States for business or tourism.

The communiqué states that it is a practice of consular officers to examine the facts about any visa application, including any negative information regarding the applicant, and to determine the eligibility for obtaining a visa under United States law. "As needed, we constantly weigh the allegations and testimonies of corruption and organized crime during visa decision-making in order to limit those who contribute to these problems from obtaining a travel visa to the United States."

We will continue to publicly express our concern that no one is being held accountable, including Kosovo officials, for the corruption and organized crime that are clearly present in Pronto cases, Italian visas, Dubrava Prison, Land demolitions, and Apex, and other similar cases."
