Cakaj demands Kosovo's accession to the Council of Europe
 
 Albania has requested the membership of the state of Kosovo in the Council of Europe. During the ministerial meeting in Helsinki, the outgoing Foreign Minister, Gent Cakaj, stressed that this decision will strengthen the role of this organization in the Balkans.

"Kosovo's membership in this organization is a contribution to raising the standards and criteria proclaimed by the Council of Europe and on the other hand is an added value for the Council of Europe in general," Cakaj said.

He said that the work of the Council of Europe should be improved, which at the core has the human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

"The more inclusive the Council is, the stronger will be the organization, and the more powerful will be the values ​​it proclaims," ​​Cakaj said.

At the conclusion of the Ministerial, the Foreign Ministers of the member states of the Council of Europe have adopted a declaration and a series of decisions aimed at consolidating the organization and preserving its European-wide character.
