Husband of Albania's Education Minister, Dardan Mulliqaj arrested in Kosovo

 The Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Kosovo says that Kosovo Police has arrested the MP Dardan Mulliqaj, the husband of Albanian Education Minister, Besa Shahini. As reported by the Kosovar media, Mulliqaj was arrested in his apartment and was not previously notified of a hearing or court appearance.

The Minister Besa Shahini recently got married recently with the Kosovo MP, a move that received the attention of Kosovar and Albanian media.

"Molliqaj was arrested under the justification for participating in the protest for the release of MP Albin Kurti in 2015. The arrest of the MP in question was in violation of human rights and freedoms and in violation of legal proceedings. For that reason, that protest was right and necessary," reads the SDP's announcement.

The party of Mulliqaj has demanded his release.

"The SDP is for the rule of law, where the freedom of protest and criticism is respected. Therefore, we are unacceptable to any attempt to violate them, "says SDP's response.
