The second Summit of the Albanian Diaspora started in Tirana

 The second session of the Albanian Diaspora Summit is opened in Tirana, at the "Expo City", on the outskirts of Tirana, while is attended by Albanian prominent personalities of business, science, art and culture living abroad.

Present is also the Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Albanian ministers, and also the President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci.

In the agenda is foreseen to be present also the head of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, but the latter has refused to attend the Summit.

Mark Gjonaj from the United States, a member of the New York City Council, spoke at the opening of the Summit. Mr. GJonaj said that no one can forget his homeland and that everyone has obligations to the country of origin, and urges everyone to give his or her contribution to any area of knowledge  one can, for Albania.

Is expected that numerous personalities of Albanian politics and not only to hold speeches.

The Vice President of the World Jewish Congress, Marie Van De Zyl, deeply appreciated the relationship of Albanians to Jews.

"Albanians saved the Jews during the Holocaust. The Jews have a centuries-old relationship with Albania. Besa, is a special and inherited word. I am proud of the achievements of the Jewish community," said Van De Zyl.

During her speech she asked for cooperation between the Diaspora and our country.

"The diaspora must co-operate to achieve the objectives. Muslims face racism in Western countries but people should not be discriminated because of their faith," said the World Jewish Congress Vice President.
