Montenegro approves the protocol on North Macedonia's accession to NATO

The Montenegrin Parliament approved on Friday the bill on the ratification of the North Atlantic Treaty Protocol on the accession of North Macedonia. 44 deputies voted in favor of this draft law. It is supported by members of the Democratic Socialist Party, Social Democratic Party and minority parties in Montenegro.

The Foreign Minister Srdjan Darmanovic said in parliament that the deputies made a historic decision, as Montenegro for the first time adopts the admission of another country to NATO. He also stated that North Macedonia accession to NATO is a good news for the whole region and the only way to achieve progress in the Western Balkans.

"Macedonia's support is high on Montenegro's agenda, as a NATO member country, Montenegro is an active promoter of NATO's further enlargement," Darmanovic said.

The entry of North Macedonia into NATO is considered to be extremely important for the stability and security of this country, but also for the security of the region.

Meanwhile, the MPs of the Democratic Front did not support the protocol on North Macedonia's accession to NATO.

This party considered the Speaker of the Parliament of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, a terrorist, who was present at today's session.
